Pick the right rail for the invoice
Each method has a trade-off, and offering a couple lets the client choose. Cards are fast but carry the highest fee. ACH is the cheaper option for bigger invoices, and the public invoice shows pending ACH clearance until it settles. Cash App Pay suits clients who already use it. Cash and check stay on the table for the clients who prefer them — recorded by you when the funds arrive.
The processing rates are Stripe's, published at stripe.com/pricing. PayPolka doesn't touch them beyond connecting your account — and if you'd rather not eat the fee, you can pass it through to the client.

Offer cash or check too. The public invoice shows your instructions, the client can flag that they've sent payment, and the balance only changes once you record or confirm the payment.

What payment methods can clients use?
Credit and debit card, ACH bank transfer, and Cash App Pay through Stripe, plus cash and check that you record yourself. Each invoice stores its own allowed methods, and at least one has to be enabled before you can send it.
Do I need my own Stripe account?
Yes, for online payments. Funds settle into your own Stripe account at Stripe's standard rates with no markup from PayPolka. When a client pays online, PayPolka records a verified payment, reduces the balance, and notifies you.
Can I pass credit card fees to the client?
Optionally, yes. You can pass the Stripe processing fee through to the client; the invoice total stays the same and the fee is quoted and recorded at payment. PayPolka adds no markup of its own. (Surcharging rules vary by state — that's between you and your advisor.)
How do cash and check payments work?
The public invoice shows your payment instructions, and the client can submit a notice that they've sent payment — using careful wording like 'Report payment sent' and 'Payment pending confirmation.' That notice emails you but doesn't mark the invoice paid; the balance changes only when you record or confirm the payment.
Do clients get a receipt?
Yes. Successful Stripe payments automatically email the client a branded PDF receipt, and you can resend receipts from the invoice. The public invoice also shows payment history, including pending ACH clearance when applicable.
What does it cost, and does the price increase?
